Tumbledown Vodka Distillation Process:
Vodka is often described as the purest expression of the distiller’s craft. Unlike whisky, it does not rely on years in oak barrels to develop its character. Everything depends upon the quality of its ingredients, the precision of its distillation and the care taken to create a spirit that is clean, balanced and exceptionally smooth.
At Tumbledown Distillery, the process begins with the clear water collected from Mount Tumbledown. Water is fundamental to vodka production. It is used during the preparation of the mash and later plays an important part in bringing the finished spirit to its required strength.
Tumbledown’s water is collected from Mount Tumbledown, the landmark from which the distillery takes its name. The skill of our Master Distiller provides the starting point for a vodka rooted firmly in the Falkland Islands.
As you would expect from our micro-distillery there then begins the patient process of producing a high-quality, unique drink, triple distilled for all to enjoy. Our distiller carefully controls the whole process, where his experience is essential.
The aim is not simply to increase the alcoholic strength, but to select a clean, balanced distillate that is both pure and enjoyable.
Before bottling, our distiller carefully checks for alcoholic integrity and only bottles the highest quality spirit once it reaches its chosen bottling strength. This gradual and time honoured process where water and spirit are combined creates a vodka that is smooth, clear and balanced.
From the first preparation of the mash to the final adjustment of the spirit, water remains central to the process. For Tumbledown, that journey begins at Mount Tumbledown and ends in a vodka shaped by the purity and isolation of the Falkland Islands.
